Our vision is to become the most responsible pet care business in the world
Our Better World Pledge strategy is our commitment to create a better world for pets and the people who love them.
We know we’re better with pets. It’s an ethos that underpins the work we do right across our Group. Our purpose is about delivering exceptional care for pets and their owners, but it’s just as important to us that we do the best thing for them in the most sustainable and ethical ways.
Our social value strategy, Our Better World Pledge has three areas of focus – Pet, People and Planet. Each of those areas has a high-level long-term goal. By 2030, we want to positively impact the life of every pet in the UK. Following the same timescale, we want to enhance the lives of one million people through our shared love of pets – including all the people who work for us. And from a planet perspective by 2040, we aim to have a net zero carbon impact on the planet through our own business and also our products and services and their supply chains.
We’ve achieved a lot already. We’ve raised over £50m since 2006 though the Pets at Home Foundation and VIP lifelines, our unique customer loyalty scheme. And during the pandemic we supported pet rescues up and down the UK through an emergency grant programme of £2m to help them cover their running costs. We have also offered a 10% discount for NHS employees.
We’ve continued to take our expertise out into the community to spread the word about the benefits of pet ownership too. We have been carbon neutral in relation to our buildings energy since 2017 because we have been buying renewable energy and mitigating the small amount of remaining buildings energy. And we’re always looking for new ways to minimise waste for example by backhauling all of our animal bedding for recycling.
